Sometimes potential customers come to us with very unusual requests. This guy in Hendon was in partnership with his mate and the company got into difficulty resulting in it going into administration. The business had a well established 0800 number that was published nationwide the yellow pages and would be there until the next new issue which was in 12 months approximately.

He was dangling the carrot of an order for a Samsung phone system if we could transfer the 0800 number on to our telecoms traffic carrier. He omitted to tell us that there was an outstanding bill due to the provider he had been using. To obtain the number the bill would have to be paid and the administrator would have to give his permission for the transfer.  We approached the administrator of the failed business  who requested a substantial payment before he would give the necessary permission.  We did not believe that the number was worth the value on the administrator’s fee and told him so.

He proceeded to pay all the fees and bill thinking he would be the beneficiary of the call volume that came through the number and hence getting the goodwill free!

It was a miscalculation on his part his company  went bust last month.
